  • High school athlete Luke Gane was diagnosed with aplastic anemia after having a nosebleed that just wouldn’t quit.  That was 2008 but by 2009 he was back in school and lifting weights thanks to a successful bone marrow transplant from one of two brothers who were a perfect match.  Luke went on to play for the UCLA Bruins for three seasons and became a teacher.  He eventually hopes to work as a special needs educator.

Help us create more stories of success. Help us find a cure for bone marrow failure disease.

  • The 1K walk will proceed along the scenic marina.  Festivities include a patient and family memory board, a Moment of Remembrance, silent auction, light refreshments, inspirational speakers, and a day of fun connecting with fellow patients and families affected by a bone marrow failure disease, informing the public about the signs and symptoms of bone marrow failure disease and the resources available, and raising funds to support AAMDSIF's patient programs and services.  Plan to spend your morning and afternoon with us!

This will be our sixth annual 5K run at Shoreline Village. The course is flat, fast and ideal for beating your personal best. We’ll run south along the beautiful Long Beach Shoreline, around the Queen Mary jetty and back.

The top female and male runner will receive a $100 cash prize and a gift certificate for Brooks running shoes. The female and male Masters Runners, over the age of 40, will also receive gift certificates for Brooks running shoes. In addition there will be awards for the top three running categories for each age group and participant medals for everyone. Everyone gets a Goody Bag.

The first 200 runners to register will receive our unique dry-fit t-shirt (unisex sizing) that features our new logo.

  • The Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation (AAMDSIF) is the world's leading nonprofit health organization for patients and families living with aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and related bone marrow failure diseases.

The Foundation’s strength stems from the multi-faceted community it developed over 30+ years. AAMDSIF serves and educates the patient population and health professionals and provides financial support to clinical researchers searching for better treatments and cures.

For 11 consecutive years, AAMDSIF has earned a coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating awarded by America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Only 1 percent of all American charities achieve this recognition for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
